LYME, CT – Lyme Pollinator Pathway has awarded its inaugural Habitat Hero award to Nancy Ballek of East Haddam’s family-owned Ballek’s Garden Center.

The group recognized Ballek for motivating people to incorporate native plants into home landscapes so pollinators can thrive. Ballek is credited with delivering “inspirational programs” to its members every June for five years.

“She leads by example as a gardener for wildlife, provides great educational programs and offers quality native pollinator plants with her colleagues at Ballek’s Garden Center,” the group said in a press release.

Lyme Pollinator Pathway presented the award at its fifth anniversary celebration in March.

The Habitat Hero Award recognizes those who exemplify Lyme Pollinator Pathway’s mission to create, protect and restore native habitats that support bees, butterflies, moths and other pollinators critical to sustaining ecosystems and agriculture.
