This Weekend in Lyme and Old Lyme, March 27-29
From clay to coyotes, there will be opportunities to explore art, native gardens and wildlife.

OLD LYME, CT – This weekend brings community gatherings that appeal to lovers of art, nature and good company.
On Friday at 6 p.m., community members are invited to share favorite dishes and friendly conversation at the Hadlyme Public Hall potluck dinner. Bring a dish to share at this free, all‑ages gathering. Dessert is provided and participants are welcome to bring their own beverages.
Saturday features several events celebrating art, ecology and pollinators:
- Terra Anima —For one weekend only, visit the Sill House Gallery at the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts to see Terra Anima, a showcase of terracotta sculptures created by students. The exhibit continues through Sunday.
- Native Seed Planting & Swap: Gardeners and nature enthusiasts of all ages are invited to plant native seeds and swap seed varieties at the Old Lyme Phoebe Griffin Noyes Library garden. This free, informal event encourages the use of native plants. Registration is requested.
- Lyme Pollinator Pathway 5th Anniversary Party: Environmentally conscious guests are welcome to celebrate five years of habitat restoration, education, and community outreach in East Haddam. The evening features the debut of the “Habitat Hero Award,” native plant‑inspired refreshments, prize drawings and community camaraderie.
Sunday comes with more opportunities to learn about local wildlife and gardening:
- Add Native Plants Now with Diana Drake: At 2 p.m. in the library’s Reading Room, landscape designer Diana Drake will guide attendees through selecting and planting native species for lawns and established gardens. She will draw examples from the library grounds to provide practical tips and inspiration for anyone interested in cultivating a thriving, pollinator‑friendly garden.
- Connecticut’s Clever Coyotes with Old Lyme Land Trust: At 3 p.m., wildlife conservationist Ginny Apple will present The Eastern Coyote: Ecological Generalist and Ultimate Survivor at the Lyme Art Association. Attendees will learn about coyote behavior, habitat and coexistence strategies. The event includes light refreshments and a brief organizational update.
