Letter to the Editor: Resident Calls for Comprehensive Approach to Old Lyme’s Sewer Needs

A resident questions whether Old Lyme’s sewer proposal looks beyond Sound View, warning the plan lacks a townwide vision and enough information for voters facing a major decision at the upcoming referendum.

To the Editor:

Beyond the proposed sewer plan for Sound View and Area B what are the plans for sewers in other densely populated neighborhood in Old Lyme such as Rogers Lake, Hawk’s Nest and Halls Road? Is the Sound View and Area B sewer plan the right plan for these neighborhoods?

It is foolish to make decisions on Sound View and Area B without understanding the future needs for septic upgrades in all areas of town. We need a master plan to best understand a way forward.

The plan recently approved, for referendum, by Old Lyme’s Board of Selectmen and Board of Finance is shortsighted and lacking in information, including cost sharing, required for Old Lyme property owners to make an informed decision.

I urge voters to vote no on the upcoming referendum to approve the Soundview and Area B sewer plan.

Sincerely,

William Folland
