OLD LYME — Lymes’ Youth Service Bureau (LYSB) and the Lyme-Old Lyme (LOL) Prevention Coalition host Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at a drive-through event at the Old Lyme Fire House, 69 Lyme St., Old Lyme.
This event will give residents another opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous, expired, unused, and unwanted prescription and over-the-counter drugs.
This event is free and anonymous — no questions asked.
A car seat safety check event will be held sat the same time. Bring your vehicle, your child, and their existing car seat to LYSB’s Car Seat Safety Check to have them double-checked by certified police technicians.
This event is also on Saturday, April 27, but from 10 a.m. through 4 p.m. at the Lyme Street Fire House. Appointments are required. Walk-ins may not be able to be accommodated.
If you can’t make this event, you can request a private appointment by calling LYSB at 860-434-7208, or click this link.
Since the first Lyme-Old Lyme ‘Drug Take-Back’ event in 2011, citizens have returned more than 700 pounds of medications to prevent misuse.
Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinets.
Sadly, prescription drug abuse is on the rise among adults and youth, so this is a welcome opportunity to dispose of your unwanted medications.
In addition to LYSB and the LOL Prevention Coalition, this event is co-sponsored by Old Lyme Police Department, Troop F State Police, and the Old Lyme Fire Department.
